IN BETWEEN
I am fascinated by diversity and contrast, with forms, and the material world. It has always been an inspiration and the main motivation, and the theme in my artistic practice. It gives me a wider perspective to explore and to understand our environment and social subject matters. The effects, but also the phenomenal interconnection between humanity, nature and the shift of the industrialized environments often reflect through my works.
In Between is a part of an ongoing series of artworks consist of paintings, sculptures, and installation that focus on the intersection between nature, human and industrialization. My intention is to reflect on the environmental issue but also to explore by emphasizing through artwork – the viewer’s perception of the notion about our consumption and our daily relation between our nature and the industrialized environment.
At the early stage as an artist, I started my art education as painter under mentor and the artschool founder Alle Feleghe Selam before I enrolled at the school of arts and design at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. In 2007 I was offered to continue my art education in Sweden. Since then I have earned a BFA in 2012 and a MFA in 2014 from HDK Göteborg University with fine art and applied art education. I have a multi-disciplinary artistic practice in which mostly I like working between sculpture, painting, and video.
